Grand Canyon

Whilst in L.V. we did the only ‘get on the bus get off the bus’ tour we are ever going to do. Flying to and then helicopter over the Grand Canyon.
From Boulder Airport, near L.V. , we were flown in a 14 seater plane over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and then along parts of the canyon to the South Rim.

There we were split, reorganised, shuffled, queued and lectured before a 30 minute helicopter flight over the canyon to the North Rim. It is incredible how sedimentary uprising and weathering by wind and water can create such a spectacular landscape.
On the bus, off the bus for a HUGE American style smorgasbord lunch, then on the bus off the bus to two lookouts along the South Rim for spectacular views and more photos. Hard to get the concept of being 5,000 feet above the canyon floor. It is miles wide and the Colorado river seemed to be so far away. It is hard to grasp the scale of it. Saw some squirrels, and nearly patted one before a ranger told me they are the most dangerous animal in the park, because they do bite and carry Bubonic plague. One aspect of “on the bus off the bus” tours, is waiting for 2 people who were 15 minutes late returning to the bus.
